Long cross country flight
Long cross country flight
Just joined the new forum, format is much improved over the old one!
Anyway, thought I would post something to read!
I have a 47 Navion with a O470 225hp. Owned it for three years now, flew commercial from Florida to Columbia, CA to pick it up back then. Flew it back to south Florida without incident.
Completed a very thorough and expensive annual to try and insure reliability.
Last year I bought and installed Garmin GTX 335 XPNDR with ADSB. I also use a Garmin 796 GPS with a GDL 39, and an IPad with Stratus. Did manage to receive the FAA rebate which I used to pay for the ADSB installation.
Flew from Naples FL to Fort Worth in July without any issues.
Last week flew from Naples, FL to Boulder City, NV and then back to Naples for work related travel.
No issues on this trip so far, living the dream!

Re: Long cross country flight
Thanks for your post and comments! Very sharp airplane! I am doing almost the same thing right now that you did. Currently having Navion Customs go through my airplane (including installing GTX345), and hope to be flying it from California to Alabama in the next week or so!
Keep 'em coming!
Keep 'em coming!

Re: Long cross country flight
Couple more cross country shots from last weekend. Also took a shot of the electronic E6B on my Garmin 796. It shows performance at 9500 MSL, note headwind! Winds were bad at any altitude I checked, so I just pushed on, they did subside later in the day as I got into Texas...

Re: Long cross country flight
Looks great. Love flying above cloud layers...
Re: Long cross country flight
Great pics.
I'm wondering why you are flying with partial flaps at altitude.

Re: Long cross country flight
Standard rating for this model O-470 is 225hp, next version was fuel injected and was rated at 260 hp.
Also no flaps used at 9500 msl, obviously aileron is up slightly making flap look down...
Flew back from Nevada to Florida Sat and Sun, beautiful weather!
