S-TEC 55x Navion Special

Post by Rangemaster_Tango »

I would like to update the group on the group buy/Navion special we arranged with Genesys Aerosystems on the S-TEC 55x. Only a few PO's have been received by Jack as of today. I want to remind the group that this special deal is only available until December 31, 2019...and that means the system must be invoiced to your S-TEC dealer by that date...not just ordered. So, if you want to participate in this opportunity...time to make it happen.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Action Required for you to make the purchase:
Identify and select an S-TEC dealer to purchase the kit from
Non-US purchase contact Jack at S-TEC (information below)
The kit must be purchased and invoiced no later than 31-Dec-2019
Jack is the S-TEC factory contact, he helped create this opportunity, and you should provide his information to your dealer for questions

Please ensure that all PO’s are being sent to Jack Somsen from your installing Dealer. The Dealer should mention that this is for the Navion special so I can track each PO accordingly and ensure that you get the price that we have agreed upon. Each PO must come from an Authorized S-TEC Dealer. All the orders must be built and shipped by the end of the year. The warranty period will start once the installation is complete or six months after the system is shipped (in case someone doesn’t install it until early 2020.

All PO’s must contain the following information: Make, model, tail #, serial #, voltage, and heading system.

Pricing for the special 55X is $8,200 retail, and the automatic electric trim system can be purchased for an additional $3,995 retail.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Summary:
-Refurbished 55x control head with 1-year warranty
-All other kit components are new and have a 2-year warranty
-Kit price is $8,200 USD and must be invoiced by 31-Dec-2019
-Automatic pitch trim option adds $3,995 USD
-Installation cost is determined by dealers as each plane is different
-Generally speaking, the cost to install would be around 70 hours including removing an old autopilot
-Based on estimates from a few different individuals and shops, in my opinion, it's probably around 50 hours for a clean install (no old autopilot to remove)
-Generally speaking, installing the automatic pitch trim option would add about 10 hours
-For kits to have a warranty, installation must be performed by an S-TEC dealer
-Warranty period begins on the installation date or 6-months after invoice date (whichever is first)
-Exceptions or extensions to the 6-month installation time for the warranty start date can be discussed with you for unique situations or for planes undergoing extensive repairs/restoration
-For the heading function to work, the airplane will need a heading source to control the autopilot (DG with heading bug/autopilot out; HSI; Garmin G5; Brand X EFIS compatible with 55x)

I’m about to place my order. Couple of questions about the electric trim...

1. What does it actually do for me coupled with the Stec?
2. Anyone else have it - is it worth it?
3. Does it have any effect on the LOVELY manual trim on the aircraft?
4. Is the cost for the trim upgrade also a special price or, is it the same as the standard price? If so, can it be added later (money tight atm!)...?

Thanks guys

1. What does it actually do for me coupled with the Stec?
-No need to adjust trim while autopilot is engaged (pitch servo engaged)
2. Anyone else have it - is it worth it?
-I don't, but am going to get it
3. Does it have any effect on the LOVELY manual trim on the aircraft?
-I hope not
4. Is the cost for the trim upgrade also a special price or, is it the same as the standard price? If so, can it be added later (money tight atm!)...?
-Also a special price ($5,000 retail vs. $4,000 in Navion special)
-I assume it can be added later (as with most things)

This is a smoking hot deal on a proven system. I want one of these so bad I can't stand it. But I've just put an absurd amount of money in my airplane over the last couple months, so not sure if the bank account agrees with my enthusiasm. May have to mortgage the cat.

I heard from S-TEC the other day and only 6 PO's had been received at that time for the Navion 55x special pricing. If you plan to order, S-TEC closes down for the year on 21-December-2019...so that is really the last day.
